I’m not really into putting the camera on a Lazy Susan to swivel it between characters in a conversation, nor an out-of-breath cameraman lazily failing to capture the action of a scene by focusing on the wrong thing. Sadly, it turned out to be too much of the latter and not enough of the former. Maybe I’m too harsh on Shyamalan as I haven’t really seen some of his best stuff, but I went into this expecting it to be some kind of funny/bad that I could get into. A big cast of poorly defined characters visit a secluded beach that adds years to their lives in the course of a few minutes, with seemingly no way of escaping. Knight Shyamalan returns to filmmaking in the middle of a pandemic to create…this.
